5 Players Who Shot 40%+ On Threes Who Remain Free Agents

July 11, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

In the current day of the NBA, teams realize that they can never have enough outside shooters. Since free agency has begun, most of the big name free agents have agreed to new deals. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t value left on the market though, including marksmen from deep. Here are five players that shot 40% or better from three-point territory last season that remain free agents. While none of these free agents may be huge needle-movers, they can all be utilized as outside shooters coming off the bench.

(Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name. Landry Shamet just missed the list after making 39.7% from three-point range last season with the New York Knicks.)

5 Players Who Shot 40%+ On Threes Who Remain Free Agents

Alec Burks

Soon to be 34 years old (birthday is July 20), Alec Burks has consistently shot better than 40% from deep as his playing career has gone on. While with the Miami Heat in 2024-25, he shot 88-207 from three-point range (42.5%). That was a career-best percentage from the 14-year pro. It was also the fourth time in the last five seasons that the 6-foot-6 guard/forward had better than 40% long range accuracy.

Amir Coffey

Now 28 years old, Amir Coffey has spent his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. Not only did he make 101 of his 247 three-point attempts last season (40.9%), but he also averaged a career-high 9.7 points. It was somewhat surprising to see the 6-foot-7 forward not be a part of the Clippers rotation in their opening round loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Seth Curry

Who led the league in three-point accuracy in 2024-25? None other than 11-year veteran Seth Curry. He is of course the younger brother of Stephen Curry and the son of Dell Curry. Turning 35 years old on August 23, he connected on 83 of his 182 attempts from beyond the arc (45.6%). Other than 2023-24, the 6-foot-1 guard has made more than 40% of his three-point tries every season since 2015-16. Curry’s career 43.3% three-point accuracy is the seventh-highest in league history amongst players who have made at least 250 threes.

Caleb Houstan

Standing at 6-foot-8, Caleb Houstan has never completed a dunk in his three-year career, as previously written about by Fred Katz of The Athletic. What he has done though is knock down three-pointers. Last season with the Orlando Magic, the 22-year-old attempted 160 threes, making 64 of them (40%). For his career, 84.6% of his field goal attempts have come from three-point range.

Doug McDermott

While he received the least playing time of his 11-year career last season (averaged 8.1 minutes), Doug McDermott continued to show his sharpshooting ways. Playing for the Sacramento Kings, the 33-year old attempted 101 three-pointers, making 44 of them (43.6%). It was the fourth-straight year that the 6-foot-6 forward made more than 40% of his treys. Will McDermott latch on with the eighth NBA team of his career (or play again for a team he previously suited up for)?
