Now that the 2024 MLS season is officially over, it’s time for LAFC to make changes this winter.
Following a disappointing season, losing to the Seattle Sounders 2-1 at the BMO Stadium in the Western Conference semifinals. LAFC must concentrate on what players are to get rid of and what players will stay next year.
In the last week of November, the Los Angeles Football Club announced that 19 players are under contract for 2025.
The Black and Gold declined contract options on forwards Carlos Vela, Kei Kamara, Luis Muller, midfielder Tommy Musto, and defenders Marlon and Diego Rosales.
First-team defenders Aaron Long, Jesus Murillo, midfielders Llie Sanchez, and Erik Duenas are also out of contract. However, the club is in talks to keep Long, Murillo, Marlon, Duenas, and Vela about their future. Talking about talks, LAFC re-signs defender Long to a three-year contract through 2027.
Meanwhile, LAFC2 players Muller and Musto will be eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft Process, and Duenas and Rosales will go on waivers.
The loan for midfielder Eduard Atuesta from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras of Brazil expires on Dec. 31, 2024. LAFC is in talks to keep midfielder Lewis O’Brien, whose loan from Nottingham Forest of the English Premier League expires at the end of 2024.
The Black and Gold has also transferred midfielder Bajung Darboe to FC Bayern Munich of Germany’s Bundesliga.
