Under Thorrington’s direction, LAFC joined the MLS in 2018. The Black and Gold has been victorious for seven seasons. In those seven seasons, LAFC made the playoffs six times and got out once in 2021, finishing 9th in the Western Conference.
LAFC has twice advanced to the knockout rounds, won the MLS Cup once, finished second once, and advanced to the conference finals three times. Also, LAFC won six trophies in the last seven seasons. Thorringtons has been instrumental in the club’s success by overseeing its players’ retention, acquisition, and development as he guides and directs all LAFC soccer-related choices involving the primary team, LAFC2, and the LAFC Academy.
Over the last seven years, he has signed and convinced players like Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud to sign for the club. Thorrington has also acquired young standouts such as David Martinez and Omar Campos. Overall, Thorrington brought exciting players to the club, and players gave the club trophies and competed every year for trophies.
In 2024, the future of the club’s coaching staff was secured as head coach Steve Cherundolo and his assistants Ante Razov, Marc Dos Santos, and Oka Nikolov were signed to contract extensions, while Enrique Duran, who served as LAFC2 head coach in 2023, was elevated to an assistant coaching position with the first team.
Thorrington signed a multi-year contract extension with LAFC in January 2023.
