Los Angeles Football Club signs Colombian Forward Tomas Angel and Venezuelan winger David Martinez.
The Black and Gold know that the squad lacks depth and most of the first-team players are out while some first-team players are uncertain like Carlos Vela and Denis Bouanga. Therefore LAFC needs to add more players to remain competitive in the upcoming 2024 MLS season.
Let’s dive into what players LAFC signed and their past clubs before joining LAFC.
Tomas Angel
On Wednesday, January 31 Los Angeles FC signed Tomas Angel from Atlético Nacional. The Colombian signed through 2026 with the club’s options through 2027.
“Tommy is a gifted and versatile attacker whom we have been monitoring for quite some time during his time with Atlético Nacional and with the Colombian National Teams,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said. “Tommy knows LAFC well, and we are grateful he also believes LAFC is a fantastic next step for his promising career.”
The 20-year-old Colombian joined the Black and Gold after spending three years at Atlético Nacional. He made his professional debut in January 2021 when Los Verdolagas beat vs. Pereira 5-2.
During his time at Atlético Nacional, he won two Colombian Cups, one Colombian Super Cup, and a Colombian Champions. Not bad for the young Colombian player and now he joins LAFC and brings the winning mentality to the Club.
Meanwhile, in the national team, he participated in the Colombia national team U19 and U20. His international debut was on May 31, 2022. He made 15 appearances and scored five goals for Colombia. He was on the Colombia U-20 squad for the 2023 Fifa U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
David Martinez
Not only LAFC sign Tomas Angel, but LAFC also signed David Martinez from Venezuela’s Monagas SC. Martinez signed a contract that begins Feb 7 and extends through 2027 with the club choice for 2028.
“David is one of the most sought-after young players in South America with an impressive amount of experience despite his age,” said Co-President and General Manager John Thorrington. “We are incredibly excited about David’s potential and his future at LAFC. I would like to thank our scout Pipe Altamar for his great work as well as Nicolas Fernandez from Monagas for their critical roles in the process of signing David.”
Martinez before joining LAFC, he spent the past two years playing for Monagas SC of Primera División Venezolana. He made his professional debut for Monagas SC at 16 years old. Vs CD Everton in the Copa Libertadores on Feb. 22, 2022. Slowly he became a key player for Los Azulgranas. He started 24 times out of 38 appearances and scored six goals and provided five assists.
Martinez made his national debut against Guatemala in a friendly match on June 16, 2023. He also played for Venezuela at the U-17 and U-20. Martinez has registered 21 appearances. David Martinez will bring pace, skills, and technical ability to the table and so far he is a generational talent.
