LAFC is Finalizing a Deal to Sign Olivier Giroud and Why is a Good Move

April 2, 2024 by Los Angeles Sports Nation

Olivier Giroud has reached a verbal agreement to sign for LAFC on an 18-month contract, starting July 1st.

The World Cup winner will join Hugo Lloris this summer when his AC Milan contract runs out on June 30th. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Black and Gold revealed their interest in October and made a formal bid.

After a great career in Europe, Giroud won the Ligue 1 with Montpellier and four FA Cups, three with Arsenal and one with Chelsea. He also won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsa and Serie A with AC Milan.

He will play for Los Angeles FC in the MLS after the Euro 2024 in Germany, and this signing is huge for LAFC. So Far, LAFC hasn’t had the best start this season, and they lost to Colorado Rapids 3-2 on Saturday, March 30.

Why is Signing Olivier Giroud Great for LAFC?

The Black and Gold now lost three MLS games and sit 9th in the Western Conference table. But that could change soon once Giroud arrives in July.

Giroud’s arrival on the squad will change the dynamic and boost the team, possibly qualifying for the MLS playoffs.

The French International will bring the ability to hold up the ball with his back to goal, link up play, or create space for his teammates with his movement off the ball, which Denis Bouanga and co will enjoy.

Most importantly, he will add goals and physical strength upfront, which will cause opponents problems and put them in uncomfortable places in set pieces. Giroud will also bring a winning mentality to the team.

LAFC signing players like Giroud is a good sign because other top players close to ending their European careers can join the Black and Gold for a few years. In the 2022 MLS season, LAFC signed Garth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini and won the MLS Cup.

This year, LAFC signed Hugo Lloris, and soon, Giroud will join and bring a winning mindset back. Despite Giroud’s arrival, the squad still needs to improve after losing half of the first team last season.
