Los Angeles Football Club, among other MLS clubs, is interested in signing Richy Ledezma from PSV Eindhoven.
After scoring just one goal in four seasons and not playing much with PSV, Ledezma could return to the United States in the coming weeks.
According to a source close to the player, LAFC, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, and the San Jose Earthquakes are among other clubs that are targeting signing Ledezma.
Ledezma, who is in the final 12 months of the PSV contract, played for New York City FC on loan in the 2023 MLS season. He made 23 appearances (14 starts) and provided four assists. He returned to PSV Eindhoven, and Ledezma made only one start.
Currently, there is no source confirming what team is close to signing the player. Real Salt Lake holds Ledezma’s MLS rights after previously coming through the academy ranks and playing for Real Monarchs during the 2018 USL season.
The Western Conference leaders may receive a fee if another MLS side strikes a deal for Ledezma this summer. Ledezma must wait until July 18th, when the Secondary Transfer Window opens, to officially make the move to MLS.
Ledezma moved to PSV in 2019, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract. He made his debut for PSV in November 2020 and also made the United States national team debut that same month in a 6-2 win over Panama, providing two assists. However, things didn’t turn out well for Ledezma, as he missed most of the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons due to tearing his ACL on multiple occasions.
Thanks to his injury, Ledezma only made 24 appearances for PSV. He made one appearance in the 2023/24 season, playing five minutes in PSV’s 3-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk. PSV won his
25th Eredivisie title with 91 points, losing just one game. Sergino Dest, Timothy Tillmann’s brother Malik Tillman, and Ricardo Pepi were key members of the team.
Should LAFC Make the Move?
LAFC, though, needs midfielders to add depth to the squad. Ledezma would be a good signing for the Black and Gold. He can hold the ball, make key passes, play through balls, pass, and take set-pieces.
He enjoys doing layoffs and does not dive into tackles.
Meanwhile, he has a few weaknesses, such as poor finishing, and his defensive contribution is not up to level.
The biggest weakness is whether he can remain injury-free after missing out for two years.
