Eduard Atuesta returns to LAFC

February 13, 2024 by Los Angeles Sports Nation

Eduard Atuesta rejoined Los Angeles Football Club on loan from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras on Thursday, Feb. 8. After two plus years the 26-year-old returns on a loan through 2024 with an option to buy.

The news the LAFC fans have been waiting for. Atuesta is a key player that will keep LAFC ticking this 2024 season. He was one of the best midfielders in the MLS in 2019 and an important player for the Black and Gold. Now he returns to the squad to bring his dominance, versatility, and creativity to the midfield.

“We are thrilled to welcome Eduard back to LAFC, a player our supporters love, and a top midfielder in our league,” co-president and general manager John Thorrington said in a release.

“We are well aware of the value Eduard brings to LAFC on the pitch, and we are confident that his quality and added experience will contribute to our success moving forward.”

Following a great two-year period in Brazil with Palmeiras, where he helped the team win back-to-back Campeonato Brasileiros and Campeonato Paulistas. The Colombian also helped Palmeiras win the Recopa Sudamericana and Supercopa do Brazil.

Not only did he win trophies with Palmeiras he also helped the Black and Gold win the 2019 Supporters Shield. Atuesta was also part of the MLS All-Star in 2021 and MLS Best XI in 2019.

“I’m very happy to be home again,” Atuesta, who will occupy an international roster slot, said in a video posted on social media by LAFC. “Happy knowing I’ll see you all soon. To share experiences with you all again. I’m really happy. See you all soon.”

Now he has returned to LAFC, Atuesta stands fifth in appearances, starts, minutes, and sixth in shots. He remains second in terms of assist leaders tied with Latif Blessing, behind Carlos Vela’s 58.

Atuesta joins Timothy Tillman, Llie Sanchez, and Mateusz Bogusz in midfield ready to play in a few weeks versus Seattle Sounders FC on Feb. 24.
