New York Rangers Extend Another Young Forward

June 24, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The New York Rangers continue to keep their young players in the fold. News emerged on Monday afternoon that forward Adam Edstrom has been extended. This contract is a two-year deal that totals up to $1.95 million for the duration of the agreement. The deal runs through the end of the 2026-27 season and has an average cap hit of 975,000 per season.

Adam Edstrom Extended by New York Rangers

Edstrom has only played for the Rangers in his two-year NHL career. The 24-year-old totaled five goals and four assists for nine points in 51 games this season. He did miss a good chunk of the season due to injury problems.

The Karlstad, Sweden native averaged an ice time of nine minutes and 16 seconds during the 2024-25 campaign. Edstrom had a Corsi for of 45.1 and a relative Corsi of -5.0.

He has seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 62 career games. New York originally drafted Edstrom in the sixth round, 161st overall of the 2019 NHL Draft.

The big forward played in his native Sweden before heading over to North America. He played for Rogle BK and Mora IK in the Swedish Hockey League for portions of five seasons.

What It Means

Edstrom may be an under-the-radar signing. However, he does possess a big frame at 6-foot, 7-inches tall and 241 pounds. His physical play was one of the few bright spots as the Blueshirts struggled in the 2024-25 season.

He had 94 hits, which was fourth among NHL rookies during the most-recent campaign. Edstrom made a strong impression out of training camp and found a way to stick on the roster.

The Rangers are undergoing changes with Mike Sullivan as the new bench boss. New York will undergo some more changes, but it seems that Edstrom will have a chance to keep a spot on the lower-half of the forward group.
