Montreal Canadiens Ink Forward to a Contract Extension

January 15, 2026 by Last Word On Hockey

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have come to terms on a contract extension with forward Alexandre Texier. The recently acquired forward inked a new two-year, $5 million deal to stay with the Canadiens. Texier was signed as a free agent by the Habs on November 23rd after he had his contract terminated by the St. Louis Blues in what was a mutual agreement. Now, the young forward is thriving in Montreal.

Les Canadiens s’entendent sur les termes d’une prolongation de contrat de deux saisons (2026-2027 à 2027-2028) avec l’attaquant Alexandre Texier.

Canadiens Ink Recently Acquired Forward to New Deal

Texier has appeared in 33 games so far during the 2025-26 season between the Canadiens and the Blues. In eight games with the Blues, he registered just one assist. However, since coming to Montreal, Texier has scored seven goals and 16 points in 25 games, with nine of those points coming in the last nine games.

Over the 26-year-olds career, he has appeared in 265 games and registered 47 goals and 107 points.

Texier was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round, 45th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Texier Earns New Deal After Betting on Himself

After not being able to find his rhythm with the Blues, Texier bet on himself by having his contract terminated to find a new home. Boy did it ever pay off. Texier has moved his way up the ladder and onto the top line of the Canadiens next to Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield where he has flourished. As mentioned, he has 16 points in 25 games with the club with nine of them coming in the last nine games since being moved to the top line. He also managed to record his first career hat-trick on January 8th. Moreover, he’s found himself being utilized on the club’s top power play unit in recent games, only furthering his potential to smash his current career highs of 12 goals and 30 points.

Alexandre Texier has been an absolute homerun signing by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens, hence why they elected to get him re-signed early to keep him around for another two years.
