Los Angeles Kings Extend Alex Laferriere with New Deal
Laferriere has only played for the Kings across his two-year NHL career. The 23-year-old forward had a solid campaign with 19 goals and 23 assists for 42 points in 77 games this season. He had a Corsi for of 58.8 and a relative Corsi of 8.3.
The former Harvard University product has 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points in 158 career games. Los Angeles originally drafted Laferriere in the third round, 83rd overall of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Laferriere was a standout player in college with the Crimson. He was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year in the 2021-22 season. His sophomore season had him make the second-team of the all-ECAC squad.
What It Means
The young forward took a big step forward in his second season in the league. Laferriere stepped up and his earned this new contract. He recorded four game-winning goals this season as the Kings finished second in the Pacific Division behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
Los Angeles did make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but changes are coming to the club. Rob Blake was not brought back as general manager and Ken Holland has been brought in. The Kings have been a good team, but they can’t seem to get past the Edmonton Oilers in the opening round.
Laferriere is a few seasons away from unrestricted free agency, but this was a deal that needed to happen. This contract keeps the young forward in the fold for the near future.
