Restricted Free Agent Forward Tye Kartye Signs
Tye Kartye has played two full NHL seasons with the Seattle Kraken. Kartye was undrafted, but signed his first contract with the Kraken in 2022.
So far in 140 career NHL regular season games, he has 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points. He’s done so in an average of 10:52 of ice time. Furthermore, he’s carried an even-strength Corsi-for-percent-relative of -0.6.
What Does the Deal Mean for Kartye and the Kraken
He’s been a good depth forward for Seattle. As Tye Kartye signs, you know what you’re getting. He works hard and loves to add some physicality to the bottom of your lineup. Moreover, he’s done well to prove his worth through his style of play. This new deal will likely give him the opportunity to take on more ice time, and more importantly, more responsibility. Seattle knows what he brings and it’s a great chance to continue to develop.
That’s what he is hoping to do with this contract. If he provide his physical brand of hockey more regularly, and add some offensively, he can earn an even bigger payday when this deal expires. For now, Seattle hopes with the added tinkering to the lineup this offseason, they can be more competitive. Kartye, for one, was an easy decision for general manager Jason Botterill and staff.
