Team Canada and Tampa Bay Lightning Star Forward Leaves Game

January 13, 2026 by Last Word On Hockey

The Tampa Bay Lightning could be without the services of star forward Brayden Point after an awkward fall in front of the net against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. In a net front battle, in which Point scored, Point’s right leg was trapped under Flyers defenceman Cam York. Immediately afterwards, he threw his gloves and clutched at his leg. He was then helped off the ice by teammates, and by the training staff in the tunnel. He appeared to not be able to put any weight on it.

Potential Canadian Olympic Implications of the Point Injury

The concern doesn’t just revolve around Tampa Bay. Point was named to the Canadian Olympic roster before the season began. He was expected to be a key part of the quest for a Gold Medal. With the Olympic tournament starting in less than a month in Milan, Italy, all eyes will be on the star forward if he misses any time. Some names that were on the outside looking in include Connor Bedard, Sam Bennett, and Mark Scheifele. Either of which could find themselves canceling their plans to go to Mediterranean. It’s almost certain that his availability for the Olympics has now come into question. If the injury is as bad as it looked a couple of phone calls could take place.

Point scores on the power play but it hurt on the play. York went down and Point’s right lnee was twisted underneath. He immediately threw off gloves and grabbed his knee. Needed tp be helped off by head athletic trainer Tom Mulligan and Nikita Kucherov pic.twitter.com/8Sr9SnUZ6t

So far this season the Lightning star has amassed 29 points in 36 games. With Canada’s head coach also behind the bench for the Lightning, Jon Cooper will know the status of the Calgary native sooner than others in the management group. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked and that Brayden Point will be able to return before the Olympic break. Stay tuned, as we will be sure to pass along the latest injury updates when they become available through the social media channels.
