October 26, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to another NHL Predictions. Each day, our writers here at Last Word on Hockey look at the games and give in-depth analysis. Our team breaks down the key matchups, storylines, and stats, then makes predictions based on how they might play out. For this edition, we will look at the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Vancouver Canucks. Don’t forget to check out more NHL Predictions, as our writers continue this series throughout the 2025-26 season.

NHL Predictions

Colorado Avalanche vs New Jersey Devils

2024-25 Season Series: Avalanche 2-0 Devils

How to Watch:

U.S TV: MSGSN; Altitude; NHL Network

Canada TV: Sportsnet

Time: 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

We open up NHL predictions with the Colorado Avalanche visiting the New Jersey Devils. Trent Miner is the expected starter with the Avalanche losing to the Boston Bruins the day before. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. The Avalanche have lost the last three consecutive games entering this matchup. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas are tied for first in goals with six. However, MacKinnon is first in points with 13.

Jake Allen has played well while Jacob Markstrom has been out, and Allen will likely draw the start again. The Devils have ripped off seven consecutive victories after losing the season-opener. Jesper Bratt is first in assists with 11, but Jack Hughes is tops in goals with six.

Colorado is talented, but it has been struggling as of late. New Jersey gets a win to extend the streak.

Prediction: Devils win 4-2.

New York Rangers vs Calgary Flames

2024-25 Season Series: Rangers 0-2 Flames

How to Watch:

U.S TV: MSG; ESPN+

Canada TV: SN West

Time: 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our second game of NHL predictions has two struggling teams squaring off when the New York Rangers battle the Calgary Flames. Igor Shesterkin will likely get the call in goal for the Blueshirts, who have lost the last two games. This includes an embarrassing loss to the previously winless San Jose Sharks. Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin are tied for the team’s lead in points with seven.

Dustin Wolf is the projected starter for the Flames, who have dropped eight straight games. Calgary is dead last in goals scored with 1.67 goals scored per game. However, New York is only barely ahead of Calgary with 2.33 goals scored per game. Nazem Kadri is first on the club in points with five, but Blake Coleman leads in goals with three.

This could be a low-scoring game, but the Rangers get the victory.

Prediction: Rangers win 3-2.

Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks

Head-to-Head: Oilers 1-0 Canucks

How to Watch:

U.S TV: ESPN+

Canada TV: SN Pacific; SN1

Time: 10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our final and featured game of NHL predictions has the Oilers and the Canucks renewing their rivalry. Calvin Pickard is the probable starter for Edmonton, which is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken. The Oilers have been inconsistent in the opening portion of the season. Connor McDavid is first in assists (10) and points (11), while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl share the team’s lead in goals with five.

Thatcher Demko is the projected starter, with Kevin Lankinen getting the nod in a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Vancouver has dropped its last three games entering this matchup. Kiefer Sherwood is the surprising leader on the team with four goals. Conor Garland is the team’s leader in points with nine. Quinn Hughes and Garland are the joint leaders in the assist category with six.

Both clubs are coming off games the night before. However, Edmonton gets the win on the road.

Prediction: Oilers win 4-3.

Prop Bets of the Night

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. Let’s stay with our featured game for our preferred props. The over/under for this game is 6.5, and we think the over is the right play.

As for individual props, go with McDavid to score a goal for the Oilers. On the Canucks’ side of things, take Elias Pettersson (the forward) to get an anytime goal.
