Montreal Canadiens Forward Out With Lower Body Injury

January 21, 2026 by Last Word On Hockey

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they will be without forward Alexandre Texier for tonight’s matchup against the Minnesota Wild. Texier is dealing with a lower-body injury that is still being evaluated. As it stands, Texier is considered to be out day to day.

It’s uncertain when the injury exactly occurred for Texier; however, it would have been during the Canadiens recent 6-5 overtime win against the Ottawa Senators. Texier missed practice on Monday on what was originally deemed as a therapy day, though clearly there’s a nagging issue there as he’s slated to miss tonight’s game.

Alexandre Texier has been outstanding since signing with the Canadiens after his contract was terminated by the St. Louis Blues. He has scored seven goals and 16 points in 27 games with the Canadiens this season. This ultimately earned him a contract extension, as the Canadiens elected to ink him to a two-year deal worth $2.5 million per season.

As One Forward Leaves, Another Returns

While the Texier news is obviously discouraging, especially given how well he was playing, the Canadiens were handed some good news as well. Kirby Dach will be returning to the Canadiens lineup to take Texier’s place. Dach was activated from LTIR ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Minnesota Wild and could potentially take Texier’s place on the wing next to Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. He’s also expected to slot in on the powerplay.

Dach has been out of the Canadiens’ lineup since November 15th, when he suffered a fractured foot against the Boston Bruins. In 15 games this season, Dach has scored five goals and seven points.

When in the lineup, Dach has been a solid player for the Canadiens. However, he’s had trouble staying healthy. Dach has had injury troubles his entire career. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from yet another lengthy layoff.
