Anaheim has had problems with scoring in the past, and this year was no exception.
Nobody on the Ducks roster scored 30 or more goals.
That statement just shows how ineffective the offense was this year. Even with the lack of scoring, there were some bright spots in the forward group.
Throughout the year the Ducks found some unlikely scoring. At the end of the shortened season, Adam Henrique led the team in goals and points. Henrique would definitely be considered the Ducks best forward this past season. Right behind Henrique in goal scoring was Jakob Silfverberg.
After those two players show how poor the Ducks goal scoring is. The goal totals for players drop off pretty drastically. This issue just seems to haunt the Ducks in these recent seasons.
There were a few players who definitely caught the eye of many Ducks fans.
The main player you’re probably thinking of is Nicolas Deslauriers.
He captivated fans with his hat trick against the Ottawa Senators on March 10th of this year. What makes the hat trick so special is that Deslauriers set a franchise record for the fastest hat trick scored. He wasn’t known for his goal-scoring ability but for his physicality.
Deslauriers brought physicality and chipped in some goals throughout the season. He was a sure stand out for the Ducks this past season.
This year was another disappointing year for Rickard Rakell.
His production has regressed greatly since the 2017-18 season. Rakell, however, was only one point away from tying his total from the 2018-19 season. He showed some flashes of brilliance this season but it seems like he can’t continuously keep that play up. Rakell’s season seemed to be on an upward trend but he still hasn’t gone back to his goal-scoring ways.
Bob Murray tried to shake up the forward group at the Trade Deadline. The Ducks acquired Sonny Milano, David Backes, Danton Heinen, and Andrew Aggozino. Out of this group, Heinen and Milano seem to be the best acquisitions. In his Ducks debut, Sonny put up 2 goals including an OT winner against the Edmonton Oilers.
In his short stint with the Ducks so far he’s put up 5 points in 9 games. Danton Heinen also looked really good in the short time he’s been with the Ducks. He had 4 points in the 9 games he played with the Ducks so far. Bob Murray set up the forward group for a solid future with his deals at the deadline.
Even with another year with a scoring drought there still were some bright spots on the team. The future does look bright for the Ducks. Their scoring problem could be fixed sooner rather than later.
Right now their situation, however, doesn’t look great.
