The Ducks have signed forward Troy Terry to a 3-year extension worth $4.35 million.
Last season Terry put up 4 goals and 11 assists with his time in the NHL. He still has the ability to be a star forward in the NHL, he just hasn’t broken out yet.
Through 2 seasons in the AHL Terry has been over a point per game. If he can translate that type of play into the NHL he could easily be one of the Ducks best young forwards.
Troy was drafted in 2015 in the 5th Round. His outstanding numbers in the USHL and the USDP caught the Ducks’ attention.
Terry wasn’t seen as a goal scorer but as a player who could help drive the offense.
He has some great playmaking ability in the offensive zone but he’s also able to score on his own. After Terry was drafted he committed to the University of Denver. He would play there for 3 seasons putting up very solid numbers each year. In his final season with the Pioneers, he was named Assistant Captain. Terry was showing very promising development for the Ducks.
Terry may not be known for his play at the University of Denver but some Americans may know him for his performance at the World Juniors. Troy was the American hero in the semi-finals of the tournament. The game between the US and Russia had gone into a shootout.
This is where Terry started to shine.
He scored 3 shootout goals to help the Americans advance to the Finals.
He even scored the winning goal in the shootout. However, Terry wasn’t done in the shootout. In the final game between Canada and the US, it had gone to another shootout. Both Carter Hart and Tyler Parsons were making save after save. Terry was up in Round 4 of the shootout and he didn’t disappoint. He ended up scoring the winning goal and played the hero for the United States of America.
Statistically, Terry was Anaheim’s best rookie last season. He was able to drive the offense like he did in the NCAA and in the US Leagues. However, Terry was also good defensively.
He was able to transition the play very well into the opponent’s offensive zone. Terry’s play is definitely on the uprise so he’s due for a breakout season in the near future.
The Ducks definitely got him on a steal of a contract too.
