The Anaheim Ducks will be without one of their key players for a bit. News came down that forward Trevor Zegras has been suspended for three games. It is his first-career suspensions. The discipline stems from an incident on Sunday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. in a 5-4 overtime loss against Detroit on Sunday night.

Zegras’s suspension comes after a hit on Red Wings centre Michael Rasmussen on Sunday. The 23-year-old forward at 17:17 of the second period allegedly used his shoulder to make contact with the head of Rasmussen. Detroit’s centre would leave the game with an undisclosed injury following the hit. Zegras was not given a penalty during the game.
The Bedford, New York native has been dealing with injuries and has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 34 games this season. In addition, he has a Corsi of 53.9 and a relative Corsi of 10.7. Zegras has only played for the Ducks across his five-year NHL career.
Anaheim’s centre has 62 goals and 108 assist for 170 points in 245 career games. The Ducks originally drafted Zegras in the first round, ninth overall of the 2019 NHL Draft. Furthermore, he has also played for his home country on the international level. Zegras was part of the gold-medal winning squad at the 2021 IIHF World Juniors.
What it Means
This is another setback for Zegras. The forward is struggling this season. For the Ducks, they will be without a core player for the next three games.
On the other hand, one piece of good news is that Zegras has not been suspended. However, he has been fined before in his short NHL career. The Ducks will have to make due without the former 20-plus goal scorer.
