Today’s rumours are on the Ottawa Senators, a team that is in the top half of the NHL’s Atlantic Division and today we wish to discuss a very specific change to their forward alignment. They want to add scoring punch, somewhere in their top-six. It seems general manager Steve Staios and company are willing to do what that takes to take that ultimate next step. Given the weaker class of free agents for 2025, it is very plausible this roster improvement comes via the trade route. The significant idea here, is that it would take a major part of the roster to give up, in order to make it happen. So, let’s really decide where it all comes from, what it could mean, and what will ultimately shake down.
Ottawa Senators Rumours Featuring Drake Batherson
The interesting point of shifting from free agent to trade rumours, is just what assets will you concede to get what you want, to what truly makes your roster better. It is surprising from a Senators fan perspective to hear the name Drake Batherson. The fit between Dylan Cozens and he seemed very successful. However, he has at times been susceptible to trade-chat banter throughout his NHL career in the Canadian National capital.
In any sense, if the Sens want to improve their scoring output, as any team would want to at some level, it will take a major asset. The problem with the Senators organizational depth chart, is they are somewhat limited in what they can offer. On some level, that idea is pointed directly at their lack of high-end NHL prospects. Therefore, it would be intuitive to focus on the available high-calibre roster players to offer as trade bait. Outside of Batherson in fact, there’s not much for options to offer.
How Can the Sens Make a Forward Upgrade Work?
But just who are they even able to get is something to explore in Ottawa Senators rumours. Many players out there will need to be paid, that is why the idea of the Sens sending away a big name player in return is not only sensible, but basically required, to free up that crucial cap space. One reason the Joshua Norris trade deadline swap for Cozens made so much sense.
The players we show are not necessarily fitting any specific criteria. However, they are a look at a specific comparable in terms of roster positioning, with many being free agents this summer. The one name who is not a free agent this summer, rather next, is Dallas Star Jason Robertson. That’s why the comparisons shown in the graphic makes so much sense.
The Final Word on Ottawa Senators Forward Rumours
The Senators do seem set on re-signing veteran Claude Giroux. Therefore, within their top-nine forward line combinations, there’s really not all that much room. However, if they could somehow add someone like Robertson, he would improve pretty well anyone that is available in a wins-above-replacement sense. The key takeaway from our discussion, is that there are many options to improve the Sens forwards. Conversely, to be able to lock in on a specific target and also, just as important, who to give up, is not trivial. One thing is for sure, Staios will make a cool, calculated move, and if his past track record is any indication, carries with it a high-probability of success.
