Morgan Frost and the Calgary Flames have agreed to a new contract. The restricted free agent has signed a two-year contract worth $8.75 million.

Frost was acquired by the Flames in January of this past season in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. It was a unique trade, as both the Flames and Flyers exchanged former first-round picks as part of the trade. Between the two teams, Frost played in 81 games, scoring 14 goals and adding 23 assists.
Frost Looking to Build Off Strong Seasons
The first-round pick in 2017 has enjoyed success at the NHL level. Frost got his first full-time role in the 2022-23 season and the Ontario native impressed. Playing in 81 games, Frost scored 19 goals and recorded 46 assists. In the two seasons since, Frost has not been able to repeat those numbers. However, at 26-years old, Frost can still develop his game and emerge into a productive NHL player.
Role with the Flames
Last season, Frost played on the team’s third line as the centre. We can assume Frost will remain in that role as long as he continues to be productive. Of course, there is always the possibility Frost could move up in the lineup if he finds a way to replicate his 2022-23 season and improve upon it.
The Flames will also hope to see Frost’s discipline play carry over into the new season. In 32 games with the Flames, Frost only received six penalty minutes.
Payday
This is Frost’s first payday of his young career. This has to feel good for the young player. He has definitely earned it. A strong two seasons could earn him another payday when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
