This season is a legacy year for Sean McVay

Does McVay have enough magic to get the Rams to a third SB appearance in nine seasons?

Ever since Sean McVay burst onto the scene and worked his magic, he’s been one of the NFL’s best head coaches. The Los Angeles Rams have seven winning seasons and a Super Bowl title in eight years under their current leadership. However, this upcoming season will put McVay’s legacy as a magician to the ultimate test.

That is not to say this will be a make-or-break campaign for him, but it’s hard not to see 2025 as a legacy year for L.A.’s HC.

Now, McVay has won a championship and is the Rams’ all-time wins leader. There’s not much for someone who’s already accomplished so much to achieve.

The reason I say this is a legacy year for him is because of the construction of L.A.’s roster. At the beginning of McVay’s tenure, the Rams’ front office was doing everything possible to construct a superteam. That approach culminated in two Super Bowl appearances and one Lombardi.

Within the last three drafts, the team has prioritized youth by adding young talent to infuse into the roster. The approach nearly got the Rams to a third SB appearance in eight years. For Los Angeles to get there was a testament to McVay’s greatness, especially considering how the season began.

Unlike the two previous campaigns, this year’s squad is a title contender and is slated to be one of the NFC’s best. The Rams will not be taking anyone by surprise, so it is up to McVay to prepare his guys for the gauntlet to come. Anything less than at least an NFC Championship berth with an offense of this caliber and an emerging defense will be a disappointment.

Sean McVay has gotten the Rams to the mountaintop before, and his legacy depends on getting there again.
