The Los Angeles Rams don’t appear to have too many holes on their roster following their busy offseason.
The Rams let go of Cooper Kupp, but signed Davante Adams to replace him as the de facto X receiver in head coach Sean McVay’s offense. They also addressed a couple of positions in the 2025 NFL Draft, namely tight end, running back and linebacker.
Los Angeles’ vulnerable spot on paper appears to be their secondary as they didn’t add any meaningful players in free agency or the draft. The Rams have reportedly in discussions with the Miami Dolphins for Jalen Ramsey, but other than that the team seems content to roll with the players currently on the team.
One player that should be in the mix is Derion Kendrick, who is working his way back from a significant knee injury. He was actually waived by the team last week but then re-signed after clearing waivers.
Sean McVay explained why that happened and expressed his excitement for Kendrick to still be with the Rams, via Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com:
“Really glad that he was able to get back with us,” McVay told reporters on Tuesday. “It was really just a kind of a financial business deal based on some things that he had earned the right for his salary to fall where it was.”
McVay explained further that he, defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant and general manager Les Snead sat down with Kendrick and told him, “Hey, here’s a couple different options. Here’s what we think. But let’s just make sure that you understand that we want you back if this is a place that you feel you still want to be able to be at.”
Originally a sixth-round draft pick, Kendrick has shown flashes of being a quality corner in the league, but he missed the entirety of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL in the offseason.
While Kendrick is back with the Rams, he might face an uphill climb to playing time as he will be competing with the likes of Darious Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes Jr., and Josh Wallace. Williams, Witherspoon and Durant got the majority of the starting snaps last season, but Forbes is an intriguing option as he arrived late last year while Wallace has been impressive despite being an undrafted free agent.
Regardless, having Kendrick as a depth option at minimum makes Los Angeles better and it’ll be interesting to see if he makes noise in training camp and preseason.
