Sean McVay Loves Position Rams Are In Despite Loss To Seahawks

December 22, 2025 by Rams Nation

Sean McVay, Rams, Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams squandered a great opportunity to take control of the No. 1 seed in the NFC when they fell to the Seattle Seahawks in overtime on Thursday Night Football.

It was a crushing loss for the Rams, who blew a 16-point lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. They now trail the Seahawks by a full game in the NFC West standings with only two to play.

L.A. is facing the likelihood of making the postseason as a Wild Card team, which would mean no first-round bye or home games. While it’s not an ideal situation to be in, head coach Sean McVay said the Rams are looking forward to the challenge.

“I love it. I love exactly where we’re at,” McVay said. “I’m going to tell you this: Just like every other situation that’s come up this year, we’re going to come back swinging. This is going to be a setback that’s going to be a setup for a phenomenal comeback for us.

“I don’t look at it at all like that. This is a phenomenal, beautiful opportunity for us to respond. I’m grateful that our season isn’t over and that we have an opportunity to lean in and try to finish this thing strong. Whether we’re at home or away, I couldn’t care less. I’m ready to roll and I can’t wait to do it with this group.”

Only a handful of Wild Card teams have won the Super Bowl, with the most recent being the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It’s not an impossible task, but the Rams will have to play perfect football from here on out if they want to accomplish their goal.

L.A. is no stranger to adversity and believe this latest setback will only make them stronger as they look to get back on track in Week 17.

Rams fire special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn

Among the Rams’ biggest mistakes in their loss to the Seahawks was giving up a punt return for a touchdown and then missing a go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter.

Looking to salvage their season, it appears the Rams have made their first in-season coaching change in the Sean McVay era by firing special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn.

Assistant special teams coach Ben Kotwica will take over for Blackburn to finish out the season with hopes that he can provided a much-needed spark for that unit.
