Sean McVay Explains Why Rams Claimed Emmanuel Forbes. Jr. Off Waivers

December 5, 2024 by Rams Nation

Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Rams

As the Los Angeles Rams prepare for an important Week 14 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, they added some cornerback depth by claiming Emmanuel Forbes Jr. off waivers from the Washington Commanders.

The former first-round draft pick out of Mississippi State recorded seven tackles, one pass defensed and one interception in six games (one start) with the Commanders this season.

As a rookie last year, Forbes notched 38 total tackles with 11 passes defensed and one interception 14 games (six starts).

While things obviously didn’t work out with the Commanders, Rams head coach Sean McVay sees a lot of untapped potential in Forbes.

“[He’s a] player that we liked as part of the evaluation process coming out a couple of years ago out of Mississippi State,” McVay answered when asked why the Rams claimed Forbes off waivers.

“He had a lot of ball production and had some good tape out there, even when we played them last year. He showed versatility, showed competitive toughness on the edge, and good ball skills. A guy that I don’t know too much about personally, but Kam Curl was excited to be able to reunite with him.

“We’ll get him in here and get him acclimated to the building, but he was a guy that we liked and had a familiarity with just based on the evaluation coming out of Mississippi State and then I thought there was some good tape that he’s put out there when we’ve gone against him, particularly later in the year last year.”

After the Tre’Davious White experiment failed, the Rams are hoping to have better results with Forbes, who was the No. 16 overall draft pick only a year ago.

Forbes was a highly touted prospect out of college, and if they are able to help him get back to that level, the Rams will have a steal on their hands.

Forbes is joining a young, albeit talented cornerbacks room that includes Darious Williams, Akhello Witherspoon and Cobie Durant.

Cooper Kupp makes NFL history in Rams’ win over Saints

Cooper Kupp had a quiet day in the Rams’ win over the New Orleans Saints as he caught only three of his six targets for 17 yards.

However, the Pro Bowl wide receiver still managed to make NFL history as he surpassed Keenan Allen for the most receptions in a player’s first 100 games.

In eight games this season, Kupp has caught 58 of his 83 targets for 565 yards and five touchdowns.
