Sean McVay faces his Super Bowl offensive coordinator in the first round of the playoffs
The Los Angeles Rams will host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football in the first round of the 2024-2025 NFL playoffs. The Rams are at least getting a team that they already beat this season, as Sean McVay upended his former offensive coordinator 30-20 on Thursday Night Football in Week 8.
But despite losing to the Lions on Sunday night and falling into a wild card position, Kevin O’Connell is having another fantastic season as a head coach. The Vikings finish the season 14-3, ranked top-10 in scoring and scoring defense. Sam Darnold threw 35 touchdowns in his first season with Minnesota.
O’Connell won a Super Bowl with McVay in 2021. At least one of them is guaranteed to make the second round of the playoffs. Will it be the mentor or the grasshopper?
2021 Rams: KOC lost a critical division game to San Francisco to lose seeding Week 17. They won 4 straight straight after that to win the Super Bowl, including beating the 49ers in the NFC Championship, despite being swept by them

The Rams host the Vikings at 5 PM PST on Monday on ESPN and ABC.
The playoff history between the two teams has seen the Vikings win 5 of 7 meetings, however the Rams won their most recent meeting 49-37 back in 2000. That means that the Rams beat the Vikings en route to their historic ‘99 Super Bowl win.
Since that game, the series is tied 6-6 with the Rams winning the last three meetings:
- 38-31 in 2018
- 30-23 in 2021
- 30-20 in Week 8 of 2024
