The free agency frenzy is still a few weeks away, but the Los Angeles Rams have decided to tie down one wide receiver before he can leave.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Rams have signed wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to a one-year deal worth $5 million. Robinson had a solid season for the Rams in 2023, making 26 receptions for 371 yards and four touchdowns along with a 23-yard rush on the ground.
The decision essentially solidifies the Rams’ starting receiving corps for the 2024 season. It’ll now be Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua on the outside with Robinson and Tutu Atwell as their primary slot receivers.
The Rams in 2023 quickly and almost predictably bounced back from the previous year’s struggles when nearly their entire team was decimated by injuries. After a 3-6 start that had many people thinking them dead and buried, the Rams won seven of their last eight games to finish 10-7 and edge out the rival Seahawks for the final Wild Card spot.
But in the Wild Card round, they were unable to beat the Detroit Lions, who took the lead on their opening drive and never gave it up in a 24-23 finish in the Lions’ first home playoff win in decades.
The Rams could very well use this offseason to start thinking about their long-term future at quarterback. Matthew Stafford is 36 now and has always been a little bit injury prone.
But in the here and now, the Rams have no shortage of pieces to help the reach another Super Bowl.
