Ravens Shocking Firing Could Signal a Blockbuster Trade

January 8, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

Following the shocking firing of head coach John Harbaugh, the Baltimore Ravens could take this route and trade wide receiver Zay Flowers before the new season. According to the breaking news, the Ravens are officially moving on without Harbaugh after almost spending two decades with the organization. While Lamar Jackson’s name has been circulating in several trade rumors, nobody should forget about the impact it could have on the rest of the offensive roster. As of this posting, the Ravens have yet to fire offensive coordinator Todd Monken, but things will likely change drastically in Baltimore either way.

John Harbaugh Firing Could Signal a Blockbuster Zay Flowers Trade

This leaves the next head coach with a huge decision to make on Flowers. After signing a four-year rookie deal, the Ravens have the option to offer him a fifth-year option for 2027 as he’s eligible for a new contract this offseason. Unfortunately, it will likely be a waiting game for him since the wide receiver, like several other players, will need to adjust to the new culture and scheme.

The new coaching staff will reshape the roster, including a possible trade involving Flowers. If that happens, a trade for Lamar Jackson is likely, as the new regime would probably want to install their own philosophy. Originally selected as a first-round pick, the former Boston College product is a major name in the league after becoming one of the fastest receivers today. After posting 86 receptions for 1,211 receiving yards, Flowers put himself in a situation where, if the Ravens move forward in a different direction, he will get strong trade interest.

Next Possible Teams

Dallas Cowboys

Owner Jerry Jones plans to be aggressive on defense, but the Dallas Cowboys could lose George Pickens at the same time. Both games are won on both sides of the ball, which the defense was unable to deliver, but they can’t afford to lose Pickens. The Cowboys have one of the most well-rounded football teams, and they have several pending free agents. If the Cowboys let Pickens walk amid any drama that may happen, the team should be motivated to trade for a superstar receiver.

While it seemed like a long shot last offseason regarding the potential Rashod Bateman trade, it might not be difficult anymore. Flowers has the speed and hands to turn into a fiery slant route receiver to help CeeDee Lamb in the aerial attack. The potential duo could have fun if Pickens leaves for a better contract.

Los Angeles Rams

As long as the Los Angeles Rams have Matthew Stafford, the team could be unstoppable for the rest of his NFL career. If Puka Nacua and Davante Adams can stay healthy, this team could be really special next season if they somehow miss the Super Bowl. Head Coach Sean McVay has a mind like Harbaugh and can get Flowers in a perfect setting alongside Nacua and Adams. Either way, Adams plans to retire once Stafford does, but it gives the Rams a long-term duo receiver threat between Nacua and Flowers for whoever steps in at quarterback for the next decade.

New England Patriots

The Patriots are another team that is on fire offensively. After signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, the team positioned quarterback Drake Maye in the best spot possible. If Diggs’ off-field issues continue to arise, the team may be forced to part ways after the season. New England has enough cap space to facilitate a Flowers trade, but it will need to take a lot for them to do it since they’re AFC bitter rivals, but it’s not impossible.
