Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 1/10/25
Eric Dickerson recently revealed that he spoke with Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquan Barkley about the stud RB joining the exclusive 2,000 rushing yards club. Dickerson has the most rushing yards all-time in a season, and Barkley had a real chance to break that long standing record, but instead the Eagles rested Barkley as they prepare for a playoff push.
If you ask Dickerson, the Eagles did the right thing as the Hall of Famer and former Los Angeles Rams legend expressed that he would give up his record in a heartbeat for a Super Bowl win.
It’s interesting because whereas I totally get where “The Dick” is coming from, teams win a Super Bowl every year. There have only been eight running backs in the history of the NFL to rush for at least 2,000 yards.
Of course, as Dickerson says in his quote “football is the ultimate team sport” and so a team win means more to him than his own individual accomplishments.
Please comment on whatever you’d like, thanks for checking out Turf Show Times and have a fun (but safe) Friday!
And please stay safe all those affected by the horrific fires.
Eric Dickerson speaks to Saquon Barkley about rushing record: Here’s what Hall of Famer said to Eagles’ star (cbssports)
“Dickerson wants to see Barkley make something of this 2,000-yard campaign, and the Eagles have a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl. The NFL single-season leader for rushing yards never had an opportunity to play in a Super Bowl, only making the conference championship game once.
Like I told him, I said, ‘Look, I would trade that 2,000 yards for a Super Bowl in a heartbeat.’ That’s a no-brainer because football is the ultimate team sport. It’s not about the individual.
“If you get some records along the way, great, that’s fine.”
Barkley still has an opportunity to have the most rushing yards in a season. Terrell Davis has the most rushing yards in a season (including playoffs) with 2,476, so Barkley is 472 yards away from passing the mark.”

Rams, Chargers prepare for playoff games as fires rage through Los Angeles area (nfl.com)
“Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said on Thursday that his “thoughts and prayers” are with those affected by a rash of wind-driven wildfires in Southern California as the team prepares for its Monday playoff game, which is scheduled to take place SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The NFL on Wednesday announced the Minnesota Vikings-Rams wild-card playoff game remained scheduled to take place at L.A.’s home venue at 5 p.m. Monday. If needed, however, a contingency plan is in place for the game to be moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the Arizona Cardinals’ home venue.
McVay told reporters on Thursday that his team is preparing for the game to take place as scheduled, though preparation is going forward with heavy hearts.
“Obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with everybody that’s been affected by these fires,” McVay said.”

NFL fans livid at cruel State Farm twist of fate for LA Rams as wildfires rip through city (dailymail.co.uk)
“NFL fans have slammed the decision to choose State Farm Stadium as the backup arena for the Los Angeles Rams’ playoff game, after the insurance company cancelled coverage for thousands of California homeowners ahead of this week’s wildfires.
The LA Rams are slated to host the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium in the first round of the NFL playoffs on Monday night.
But plans are already in place to move the game to State Farm Stadium in Arizona as fires rip through Los Angeles, destroying homes and killing five people.”
The safety of the LA community is our top priority. As of now, our Wild Card playoff game remains scheduled to be played at SoFi Stadium on Monday night. As with all games, the NFL has contingency plans in the event a change in location is needed.

Random Ramsdom Fandom: Running backs past the first round (By JeffinBranson on Jan 9, 2025)
“I think everyone expects Ashton Jeanty to be picked in the first round. But there are several….maybe nine or ten…good, big, fast RBs in this draft.
Being an Ohio St homer, my favorite is Treveyon Henderson. 5’10 210 and runs a 4.38 40. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him caught from behind. He can block and he can catch. His injury history is a little bit of a concern. His running mate, Quinshon Judkins, is another very good one. Same build, but bigger, not as fast…I believe he’s a 4.48 guy. Nick Singleton from Penn State is yet another 6 footer at 200 lbs who runs a sub-4.4. Omarion Hampton from North Carolina is another big (6 ft 220) 4.44 40 RB who can catch and block. Knocks people over. Dylan Sampson from Tennessee is a blazer…..4.35 40 but slender, about 5’11” 195.
I have a name to drop on you. I think he can be had in round 4 or 5 because he’s not as well known, but the more tape of him I watch, the more I like him. Bhayshul Tuten from Virginia Tech. 5’11” 209 and runs a 4.33 40. Great kick returner, too. If he gets past the LOS, he’s gone. I’d like to see a guy like that as our #2 RB. I know McVay loves Kyren Williams, but I wouldn’t resign him simply because there are GREAT RBs coming out of college every single year, and they usually can be had in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round. I’d save the money for OTs and CBs and QBs.
My opinions, of course. We don’t know who gets picked where. There are very few sure things. Somebody mentioned Harold Fannin is a definite 1st round pick. I’ve seen him ranked around number 46 on another board, so please don’t act like experts. You don’t know from Adam where anybody will get picked, and neither do I.”
