Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 1/9/25
Matthew Stafford currently sits with a 10-13 record against his former division rival the Minnesota Vikings. Back when Stafford was in the NFC North, he faced the Vikings at least twice a year, and since joining the Los Angeles Rams he’s played Minnesota exactly twice.
He’s won both games. Can Stafford make it three wins in a row for L.A. against the Vikes on Monday?

NFL monitoring Los Angeles wildfires ahead of Vikings-Rams (espn.com)
“LOS ANGELES — As wildfires continue to devastate several areas across Los Angeles, causing thousands to evacuate and impacting air quality, the NFL said it is monitoring the situation’s potential impact on Monday night’s wild-card playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.
Three major blazes were burning in the Los Angeles metropolitan area Wednesday, from the Pacific Coast inland to Pasadena, home of the famed Rose Parade. At least 70,000 people were ordered to evacuate — a number that kept changing because evacuation orders were continually being issued, officials said.
“The NFL continues to closely monitor developments in the area and will remain in contact with both clubs and the NFLPA,” the league wrote in a statement.”

Third Time’s A Charm for the Vikings? Don’t Get Your Hopes Up. (purpleptsd)
“I’ll see you in two weeks,” Lions HC Dan Campbell said to Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell after the Lions’ blowout win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Campbell’s declaration is a bit premature—not only would a divisional-round rematch require a Vikings win over the Rams, but it would also require wins by the Eagles and Buccaneers over the Packers and Commanders, respectively. Still, it is true that if the Vikings and Lions—the teams with the best records in the NFC—keep winning, they will invariably collide.”

Pro Picks: Texans, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Bucs and Vikings will advance to the next round (sports.yahoo.com)
“Struggles inside the red zone cost Sam Darnold and the Vikings against the Lions in a showdown for the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Instead of a bye, Minnesota hits the road and is a favorite in this 4-5 matchup.
Matthew Stafford led the Rams to a 30-20 victory over the Vikings on a Thursday night in Week 8. He threw four touchdown passes and benefited from the return of Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp from injuries. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores should have Minnesota’s defense ready for the rematch. The Vikings are reeling from giving up 31 points against Detroit.
The Rams are 4-2 ATS as home underdogs. The Vikings are 3-2 ATS as road favorites.

Random Ramsdom Fandom: Wide receivers past the first round (By JeffinBranson on Jan 6, 2025)
“This is a post about later-round receivers that could help the Rams. I know all about Emeka Ebuka, Isiah Bond, Tre Mason, Luther Burden, and Xavier Restrepo. I like ALL those guys, but the following 3 (or 4) are guys that will be there in round 3 or maybe even round 4.
Theo Wease from Missouri is 6’2” 200 lbs and runs a 4.42. He has great hands and great acceleration. He wins jump balls and catches passes when CBs are draped all over him, and he played well against Ohio St, Georgia, LSU, and some other big time schools.
Jaylen Royals from Utah St is 6’0” 205 lbs and runs a 4.38 40. He may be gone in the 2nd round, but imagine a Tutu Atwell with size. This guy is the real deal, but played in a very small college and may get overlooked. If he’s there when the Rams pick in round 3, or if they somehow move up into round 2, I grab him. He’s a game changer. Not afraid to catch over the middle, great hands, tackle breaker, and speed to burn.
Donte Thornton of Tennessee is 6’5” 225 and runs a 4.42 40. A DK Metcalf type. I’d love a guy this tall and this fast on the Rams. His measurables are incredible. He needs a little…NOT a lot, but a little….work on his overall game, but learning behind Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua is ideal. You can’t teach size and speed, and he has that.
Lastly, Elic Ayomanor from Stanford is like a tall OBJ. Amazing hands, along with 6’2” 215 size and 4.42 40 speed. I don’t know if he’ll declare for the draft because he’s only a sophomore, but he’s good enough to start in the NFL if he does.
That’s a few. I don’t have Gamo’s scouting skill and attention to detail, but these are non-first round picks that I like. And remember, I told you all about Puka Nacua before the Rams drafted him. I’m not right all the time, but I was right about him and I feel I’m right about a few of these guys. Check them out…they’ve all got YouTube highlight videos.
