Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 10/14/21
Tight end Tyler Higbee seemed to be on the brink of a break out after his hot streak during the end of the 2019 season when he had four games over 100 yards. In 2020 his total yards dropped to 521 from 734 in the previous season and his total receptions dropped to 44 from 69 in the previous season.
This year, all Rams receivers have the benefit of new quarterback Matthew Stafford at the helm. What does that mean for Higbee? Through the first five games, Higbee has 166 total yards which puts him on pace for 564 total yards this season.
Among tight ends this season, Higbee ranks 19th in total yards, 14th in receptions, 21st in yards per game, and only five tight ends have more touchdowns than Higbee’s two.
So far this season, the Rams offense has had four different receivers take the spot as the highest producer in each game. Cooper Kupp was the leading receiver in the first two games, Van Jefferson was the leading receiver against the Arizona Cardinals, DeSean Jackson had the most yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Robert Woods had the most receptions and yards against the Seattle Seahawks.
With so many weapons on the offense for Stafford and McVay to work with, it would be difficult to project any more than 700 total yards for Higbee which would be around his career high in 2019. Will Higbee be limited based on the versatility of the Rams offense or will his turn come this season and will he take advantage? Higbee was the only one to catch a touchdown against the Seahawks on Thursday. In 2020 Higbee had a day against the Philadelphia Eagles scoring three touchdowns in one game. Could he be in store for a big game against the New York Giants?
