Random Ramsdom: New faces, high expectations

Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 7/22/25

Every year in the NFL is a new chance for a team to outperform or underperform their expectations, and for the Los Angeles Rams their expectations are that their new crop of rookies, added players and familiar faces should add up to a lengthier postseason run than last year.

An improvement from last campaign has to be L.A.’s hope while continuing to play with Matthew Stafford at their quarterback position. If Stafford and the Rams didn’t think they could go the distance together, then I think they wouldn’t be together.

Training camp is getting going, so we’ll see what other faces and names emerge that maybe we aren’t even expecting yet.

In meantime, enjoy the rest of July, comment away and thanks for checking out Turf Show Times!

Expectations for Rams Rookies Are Through the Roof (si.com)

“Les Snead and the Rams have stacked up some stellar drafts. They have piled up standout starters such as running back Kyren Williams (2022; fifth round), defensive lineman Kobie Turner (2023; second), wide receiver Puka Nacua (2023, fifth), defensive lineman Jared Verse (2024; first), DL Braden Fiske (2024; second) and far too many more to list here. In 2025, there’s a lack of ballyhoo accompanying the latest class, but with the Rams’ recent track record, it’s enticing to see how these rookies come along. Considering L.A.’s recent success drafting at certain positions, it’s arduous not to be fascinated by the potential of third-round defensive end Josaiah Stewart, fourth-round RB Jarquez Hunter and seventh-round WR Konata Mumpfield. However, the most intriguing could well be the highest-picked: tight end Terrance Ferguson. The second-round Oregon product might be looked on to make an instant impact with Tyler Higbee yet to show he’s fully back from a devastating knee injury and veteran Colby Parkinson regarded more for his blocking.”

Kobie Turner: Rams have Week 3 rematch with Eagles circled after playoff defeat (nfl.com)

“The Eagles steamrolled every other playoff opponent, giving the Rams what-if vibes heading into the 2025 season.

Rams defensive lineman Kobie Turner said on NFL Network’s The Insiders last week that he’s had the Week 3 rematch with Philly circled since the schedule came out this spring.

“I’ve had that loss in the back of my mind for a while,” Turner said. “Obviously, it’s on to a new season and on to continue to progress, but I definitely have — I believe it’s Week 3 — circled. I mean, even in the individual training right now, we’re breaking down, ‘OK, this is how some of the guys, some of the offensive linemen for the Eagles, this is how they block, and this is how we’re going to defeat that.”

Rams training camp preview: Does LA have enough depth at outside linebacker? (ramswire)

“The Los Angeles Rams have drafted masterfully on the defensive side of the ball in recent years, constructing one of the best front sevens in the league. Their edge rushers are particularly good, led by Jared Verse and Byron Young.

There are no concerns about the top of the depth chart at outside linebacker but the backups behind Verse and Young create some questions. Do the Rams have enough talent after those two top edge rushers after losing Michael Hoecht in free agency?

We broke down the position group into three categories, showing where everyone stands entering camp.”
