L.A.’s march to the playoffs makes a cross-country swerve
In what is expected to be their most inclement weather game of the season, the 8-6 Los Angeles Rams head east to East Rutherford, New Jersey for a tilt with the 4-10 New York Jets. The Sunday December 22 game kicks off at 1 p.m. PST from MetLife Stadium. Although the forecast is for full sun, temperatures are expected in the mid-20’s with a light breeze, 10 to 12 mph.

While the Rams lead the all-time series 10-5, New York has won the only meeting since L.A. coach Sean McVay took over in 2017. That was back in 2020, when a 1-13 Jets squad deflated the Rams playoff ballon with a 23-20 road shocker.
Venerable quarterback Aaron Rodgers leads the New York offense. Coming off a 2023 torn Achilles tendon, he’s lost a step at age 41, but is still a viable threat and capable of putting up big numbers. Wide receivers Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson are a stellar old guy/young guy combo and both playmakers. Running back Breece Hall has averaged 4.6 yards per carry over his career and is dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield.
On the injury front, the Rams appear to be as healthy as they have been all season, cornerback Cobie Durant (bruised lung) has a limited designation, but all others were full practice participants. On the other hand, the Jets had eight players limited or out. That includes starters guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, tackle Morgan Moses, and linebacker Quincy Williams.
Will the seven’s stay out?
Expect a close game and don’t be swayed by the two team’s won/lost records. The Jets have lost seven games by seven points or less, while the Rams have won seven games by seven points or less.
