Round 2 of the NFL playoffs heat up in snowy Philadelphia
With a 100% chance of snow on game day, the Los Angeles Rams fly northeast across the continent to play the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round of playoffs. Kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field in the City of Brotherly Love is set for 12 p.m. (noon) PST.
While teams can only do so much to keep the players warm, the field should be a nice and toasty 50-60 degrees, thanks to a matrix of tubes pumping a heated mixture of water and glycol under the playing surface at Lincoln Financial Field.
As for the action on the field, look for the Eagles to relive the Week 12 meeting between the two. In that game, Philly ran for 314 yards on their way to a season-high 481 offensive yards and a 37-20 win in L.A.
For the season on offense, the Eagles are 7th ranked in scoring, 8th in total yards, 2nd in rushing yards, and 29th in passing yards. The Rams finished 20th in scoring, 15th in total yards, 24th rushing, and 10th passing. On the defensive side, Philadelphia rates 2nd in least points allowed, 1st in least total yards, 1st in least passing yards, and 10th in least rushing yards. L.A. charts 17th in points, 26th in total yards, 22nd in rushing, and 20th in passing.
On paper and off the previous meeting, it appears the Eagles have a big advantage. That doesn’t mean the Rams can’t win. Head coach Sean McVay is a master game planner on offense, while defensive coordinator Mike Shula ha the defense peaking at the right time. This defense is young and emotional with fiery leaders.
While the Rams are not known for inclement weather success, the current forecast is 100% for snow accumulating 3-5 inches. Rather than the big home field advantage a cold, windy day would bring, this weather could just as easy become a great equalizer.
Will the weather be a big influence on the game?
