Rams’ Sean McVay shakes off plantar fascia tear

September 17, 2025 by Los Angeles Daily News

WOODLAND HILLS — As he walked toward the lectern for his Wednesday press conference, Rams head coach Sean McVay seemed steady on his feet, no sign of the torn plantar fascia he suffered in his left foot during Sunday’s victory over the Tennessee Titans.

“I feel good,” McVay said. “It’s actually better.”

McVay said he had been experiencing some restriction with his foot prior to Sunday. Then when he ran down the sideline to call a timeout, he felt a pop in his heel.

The coach will not require surgery on the torn tendon, saying that tearing the tendon is what surgeons do during the procedure to accelerate healing.

“It was temporarily painful but it actually feels a lot better now. So it’s a positive that I tore my plantar fascia,” McVay said jovially. “No issues for me. I did have to hop down there, I got the damn timeout even on one leg. I’m telling you it was because of the pure twitch that thing just snapped. So I’m back, I’m ready to go.”

Rams add to secondary

The Rams made a roster move to address cornerback after Ahkello Witherspoon was placed on injured reserve Monday with a broken clavicle, signing free agent Tre Brown to the active roster.

A former fourth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, Brown’s first two seasons in the NFL were largely derailed by injuries. But in 2023 when he was able to stay healthy, Brown recorded six passes defended, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

“Physical, stout at the point of attack, has good short-space quickness and lateral agilities,” McVay said. “So there’s a familiarity having gone against him when he’s in Seattle and then I think he brings some speed to the perimeter where he can do some different things. Hopefully he can potentially help us on special teams.”

The Rams still figure to rotate between Emmanuel Forbes, Cobie Durant and Darious Williams as their primary cornerbacks, with second-year player Josh Wallace also contributing.

Injury report

Rams left guard Steve Avila (ankle sprain) and defensive lineman Braden Fiske (oblique) did not practice Wednesday ahead of the Rams’ Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both were on the sidelines rehabbing with the training staff.

Tight end Colby Parkinson was a limited participant on Wednesday as he continues to recover from an AC sprain in his left shoulder. Parkinson worked out on the Nissan Stadium field prior to Sunday’s victory over the Titans, running sprints and routes while catching passes from a member of the training staff. He ultimately was inactive in Week 2. Without Parkinson, the Rams’ usage of 12-personnel sets dropped from 24 snaps in Week 1 to 14 against the Titans.

Rams receiver Davante Adams and right tackle Rob Havenstein each received veteran rest days on Wednesday.
