The Los Angeles Rams don’t typically turn to free agency in order to find a starting safety, but they broke that trend this offseason when they signed Kamren Curl to a three-year deal. Curl, formerly of the Washington Commanders, joins the Rams as a key member of the secondary after four years in D.C.
The former seventh-round pick is expected to make a big impact on defense for the Rams and he’ll do so while wearing a new jersey number. He wore No. 31 in Washington but revealed on social media Friday that he will wear No. 3 with the Rams.
The NFL began allowing more players to wear single-digit numbers in 2021 and Curl is taking advantage of that for the first time this season.

The Rams know Curl will be one of their starting safeties, but they don’t yet know who the other will be. Jordan Fuller left in free agency and John Johnson III is still on the market, which leaves either Russ Yeast or Jason Taylor II as the likely starters next to Curl.
