Going into training camp, it was known that Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams was looking for a new contract. Heading into the final year of his rookie deal, Williams has greatly outproduced his compensation the last two seasons and the organization made it clear that they were looking to reward him with a new contract.
Negotiations took longer than expected though, so Williams reported to camp without a new deal in place yet. To his credit, he did not hold out or cause a scene, expressing faith that a deal would eventually get done.
It turns out his faith was rooted in reality as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday morning that Williams has agreed to a three-year extension to remain with the Rams:

This is a deal that makes sense for both sides as Williams gets paid what he deserves while not resetting the running back market and making the Rams pay top dollar. He is now under contract for up to four more seasons, giving Williams some long-term security.
As far as new money goes, Williams is the seventh-highest paid running back in the league behind Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, Alvin Kamara and Josh Jacobs.
Now that they are committed to Williams financially though, the Rams will do everything in their power to ensure he stays healthy. That could mean lightening his workload a bit, and L.A. prepared for that by drafting Blake Corum and Jarquez Hunter in each of the last two years.
The hope is that Corum and Hunter will be able to spell Williams to keep him healthy and fresh. The Rams didn’t pay Williams this money to ride the bench though, so he will surely get plenty of touches throughout the 2025 season.
In the last two years, Williams has rushed for at least 1,100 yards per season and has scored a total of 31 touchdowns, which is among the league leaders since he took over as the Rams’ starter.
Kyren Williams focused on ball security and explosiveness this offseason
Kyren Williams struggled to take care of the ball and break off big runs last season, which led to him focusing on ball security and explosiveness during his offseason training.
“I’m in the weight room after my workout, I’m doing an arm farm or doing something just to continue to strengthen the grip, strengthen my fingers, strengthen everything like that, because it goes a long way,” Williams said.
