Asking the biggest experts on the Rams that exist, the fans, should Sean McVay be resting starters?
Sean McVay will start Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback in the Rams season finale against the Seahawks because L.A. has already clinched the division title and it’s what the head coach has done in all “meaningless” games since his second season on the job. McVay doesn’t play starters in the preseason and he doesn’t play starters in Week 18 unless the team has something to play for or in the case of 2022, most of his starters were already on IR.
But the move doesn’t come without controversy.
I use the word meaningless because that’s what most people understand as far as context. It’s not because I’m endorsing McVay’s point of view on the game, that’s just what people call these situations: “Meaningless”.
However, in our story at Turf Show Times about McVay’s comments on starting Garoppolo and Blake Corum over Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams because it’s what he always does in these situations, not all of you agree with McVay that these moments are so meaningless for the starters.
If anything, Champ’s comment went easy on McVay compared to others:
The Rams don’t have nothing to play for either, as the team’s seeding could change based on this weekend’s results. A 3-seed still has an opportunity to host a divisional round game. A 3-seed could play easier teams throughout the playoffs and avoid the number one seed in round two. A 4-seed has less advantages.
On the other hand, if the Rams lose a key player or two to injury, something not uncommon to McVay, does the path to the Super Bowl matter as much as that?
