The Los Angeles Rams took an important step toward retaining left tackle Alaric Jackson on Tuesday. They placed a second-round tender on Jackson, who was a restricted free agent.
The tender doesn’t guarantee that Jackson will remain with the Rams for 2024, but it makes it more likely. He can now negotiate with other teams and field offers, which the Rams will be allowed to match.
If they do not match an offer, Jackson will sign with the new team and the Rams will receive a second-round pick as compensation.
If Jackson doesn’t sign an offer sheet from another team, he will receive $4.89 million from the Rams for the 2024 season and become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

Jackson is still free to negotiate with any team; if the Rams do not match a contract offer from another team, they are entitled to a second-round pick from his new team.

Jackson joined the Rams as an undrafted rookie in 2021 and became the team’s starting left tackle last season after moving around the offensive line and playing both guard and tackle.
