After trading out of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams’ first pick came in the second round when they took standout Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson. With the Rams ranking dead last in receiving yards from tight ends last season, Ferguson has an opportunity to step in and immediately make an impact for this team.
Ferguson brings a lot of promise as he broke Oregon’s single-season reception record by a tight end last year and is the school’s all-time leader in both receptions and touchdowns by a tight end.
And as OTA’s are getting started for the Rams, head coach Sean McVay admitted to being impressed by Ferguson so far.
“Terrance has been good,” McVay said. “Really, today was the first day that we could do 11-on-11. These guys got here a couple weeks ago, seen a guy that’s been really attentive in meetings, got a really good feel. Really, it’s routes on air and then what we saw today, which is a limited body of work, but just been really impressed with him and really the rookie class as a whole.
“Our vets have done a good job welcoming these guys with open arms but looking forward to seeing him just continue to take it a step at a time. (TEs coach Scott) ‘Scooter’ Huff does a great job with our tight ends. So far, so good.”
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has also liked what he’s seen from Ferguson so far.
“I think it’s just always fun when you get young guys in here eager to come out here, play football and prove themselves,” Stafford said. “Whether it’s guys on offense or defense, it’s exciting to have young guys around here that – and our front office has done a hell of a job the last couple years of finding guys that are ready to go and play. Just excited for him, for his opportunity.
“Obviously, I was a fan of his during the season last year in college when I saw him running around there at Oregon doing some really nice stuff. Excited for him. Again, it’s all a development at this stage. We’re just trying to figure out who we’re going to be as a team. Everybody is trying to figure out how they can get better as a player, and he’s no different, but excited to have him.”
It is all very early in the offseason programs and veteran Tyler Higbee is still around and another year removed from that awful knee injury, so he should be much-improved as well. But Ferguson gives this Rams offense another weapon and McVay will surely employ him in the best way possible.
Quentin Lake has high hopes for Rams offense in 2025
If Terrance Ferguson can come in and make an impact this Rams offense has the potential to be one of the best in the league and safety Quentin Lake has some very high hopes for what they can be.
Lake believes this offense will be reminiscent of the ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ days and hopes they can bring that back this season. Lake mentioned that with receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, running back Kyren Williams and of course Matthew Stafford leading the way under center all the pieces are there for an explosive offense.
