Rams News: Sean McVay Calls Puka Nacua’s Catch ‘One Of The Greatest’ He’s Ever Seen

Puka Nacua has taken a massive leap in his third season, morphing into a true alpha for the Los Angeles Rams offense.

Nacua lead the Rams in yards and receptions, a testament to his status as Matthew Stafford’s most trusted option in the passing game. Davante Adams dominates the red zone targets, but Nacus is often the first read whenever Stafford and Los Angeles need a first down.

While Los Angeles has been arguably the best team in the NFL this year, the team finally endured a letdown as they lost to the Carolina Panthers in a scoring shootout. Both teams played well offensively, though Nacua had the play of the day as he came down with a ridiculous one-handed catch for a huge gain.

Head coach Sean McVay had nothing but high praise for Nacua and his catch, via the Rams’ YouTube channel:

“Oh my god. That’s one of the greatest catches I’ve ever seen. It was unbelievable. What a critical play. He’s a freakin’ stud with what he does with and without the football. I just can’t say enough about the competitive character of this group. Just willing yourself. Unreal.”

Nacua’ known for his physical play style and willingness to do the dirty work in the run game, but he’s also more than capable of making highlight-reel grabs. When Stafford let go of the football, it appeared that Nacua had no shot of getting to the football but he somehow reached around it and reeled it in.

It’s unfortunate that the play came in a loss, but it should serve as proof that Nacua’s ascended into the top-tier of wideouts in the league. He might not be considered a burner or someone that comes down with contested grabs, but he’s a tough and competitive player that keeps the Rams offense moving.

The loss should be enough motivation for Nacua and company to get back on track and they have an excellent opportunity to do so in Week 14. Los Angeles will be back on the road for an NFC West matchup against the Arizona Cardinals and that will present Nacua a chance to continue his strong season.

Puka Nacua has been able to stay mostly healthy this season, though he was forced to miss a game due an ankle injury. In Nacua’s absence, Sean McVay leaned into more 13 personnel which has since become the team’s new offensive identity.
