Rams News: Rob Havenstein Contemplating Retirement

January 30, 2026 by Rams Nation

Rob Havenstein, Rams

The Los Angeles Rams’ bid to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LX ended when they narrowly lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game.

Now, the Rams must face an offseason where a few tweaks to the roster can propel them to another deep postseason run. Matthew Stafford is coming off arguably the best season of his career, and so long as he doesn’t retire then Los Angeles should be one of the best teams in the NFL next season.

On the other hand, Rob Havenstein could very well decided to walk away from the game of football after injuries derailed his 2025 season.

Havenstein admitted that retirement’s crossed his mind and he’ll be thinking about his playing future, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I’d be lying to you if I said I haven’t,” Havenstein said Monday morning. “It’s something I’ve got to continue to think about, and we’ll go from there.”

Havenstein might not have been able to suit up for the playoffs, but he remained focused on helping out the team however he could:

“I got a lot of love for this building, for this team, for that room,” Havenstein said. “When I was young, guys were helping me out, and so it’s something I could return the favor and just do what I can. I just wanted to win, whether that was me on the field or smacking Puka on the sidelines, or handing out smelling salts. Whatever I could do to help, that’s what I wanted to do.”

Havenstein also acknowledged that coming back for one more season would be because he loves playing and not necessarily because he has something left to prove:

“Yeah, love of the game, what’s best for my family,” said Havenstein, who has started 161 career games across the regular season and playoffs since being drafted by the Rams in the second round in 2015. “I’ve done a lot over these 11 years and been around some amazing people and had a lot of great memories and a lot of friends I’m gonna carry with me forever. Love the game, love this place, love the Rams. I appreciate Sean and everything he’s done, and yeah, it was tough, been tough.”

Havenstein was the elder statesman and anchor of the offensive line, so losing him to retirement would be a huge blow for Los Angeles. The Rams boasted one of the best offensive lines in the league, but if Havenstein were to call it a career then the team will need to make adding a tackle a priority.

Matthew Stafford will take time before deciding future with Rams

Matthew Stafford turned in an MVP-level season in 2025 and nearly got the Rams back to the Super Bowl. While Stafford would remain one of the best quarterbacks in the league next year, he said he’ll take time before deciding his future.
