The Los Angeles Rams made a splash when they signed Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million contract at the start of free agency.
Adams is one of the best wide receivers of his generation and a lock for the Hall of Fame whenever he decides to step away from football.
Although he was plagued by injuries last year, Adams still has plenty in the tank and should give the Rams the big playmaker threat they were looking for.
Adams is a dynamic threat who can run any route and make contested catches with ease. Puka Nacua believes the 32-year-old’s skills will elevate the Rams offense to new heights and discussed the advice he has received from him so far, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“I think the suddenness and the ability to steal leverage at the line of scrimmage has been something that he thrives on and everybody in the NFL knows that’s something that is one of his greatest assets and to be able to figure that out and how that works in our route concepts and the timing of our offense,” Nacua said of the advice Adams has given. “So I’d say that’s been one of the biggest things.”
Adams’ presence and wisdom should only help the other Rams wide receivers, including Nacua, who has been one of the best players at his position since entering the NFL in 2023.
Nacua placed an emphasis on improving his short-area quickness during the offseason, which is another area that Adams can help him in.
Nacua has already shown flashes of greatness and if he can consistently win at the line this season, there is no telling how effective he can be in the Rams offense.
Davante Adams discusses what makes Matthew Stafford special
During OTAs, Davante Adams gave his opinion on what makes Matthew Stafford one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
“He doesn’t care what that coverage says,” Adams said. “If they’re not playing that coverage right, you might still get the ball. So everybody at all times has got to make sure… it’s never just for the love of the game.
“I’m sure everybody’s heard of those routes where you’re kind of designed to clear out or maybe, based on a certain coverage, you’ll be eliminated. That isn’t how he rolls. You’ve got to be a dog to do that. You’ve got to have a lot of confidence in your arm, in who’s across from you, who you’re throwing the ball to, all of that.”
