Rams News: Matthew Stafford Named NFC Offensive Player Of Month For December & January

January 9, 2026 by Rams Nation

Matthew Stafford, Rams

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Months for December and January, the NFL announced.

Stafford completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 1,634 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in December and January. This is the second consecutive month he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month, having also won the award in November. Stafford is also the only quarterback in the NFL to have won the award twice during the 2025 season.

Although the Rams scuffled toward the end of December, it was hardly the quarterback’s fault as he continued to keep the team in games despite defensive lapses or turnovers. Though Stafford recorded more interceptions in December compared to the rest of the season, the star quarterback is proving that he has more than enough left in the tank to lead Los Angeles on a Super Bowl run.

The 37-year-old enjoyed the best regular season of his career in 2025 despite legitimate questions about his health and availability to start the year. Stafford spent the beginning of training camp managing a back issue, unable to practice until closer to Week 1.

Los Angeles knows what a healthy Stafford can do but even the organization has to be a little surprised with how he’s responded this late into his career. Head coach Sean McVay has continuously praised Stafford’s grasp of the offense and it shows as it seems like he has an answer for every defensive coverage.

While Stafford’s been able to prop up the offense, the defense has to hold its end of the bargain. The defense showed real leaks toward the final stretch of the season, with a large part of their struggles coming after Quentin Lake was sidelined following a dislocated elbow.

Los Angeles has also been without Davante Adams, the team’s go-to red zone target as he aggravated a hamstring injury he had been managing for weeks. Fortunately for the Rams, both Lake and Adams are tracking to be available for the 2026 NFL Playoffs, so it’ll be exciting to see what Stafford and L.A. can do at full strength.

Tom Brady endorses Matthew Stafford for MVP over Drake Maye

Stafford was the frontrunner for NFL MVP before a rough stretch in December seemed to tank his odds. New England Patriots star Drake Maye is considered by some to be the favorite, but Tom Brady publicly endorsed Stafford as the league MVP for the 2025 season.
