Although the Los Angeles Rams waived Cooper Kupp in the offseason, they rebounded nicely by signing Davante Adams in free agency.
Adams seemed keen on returning to the West Coast following his release from the New York Jets, and landed in a perfect situation as Los Angeles desperately needed a true X-receiver to pair with Puka Nacua. Adams may be on the downswing of his career, but is still a highly effective outside receiver that can still get open on any given play.
Matthew Stafford has never had a pass-catching corps this well-rounded in his career and is expected to play at a high level with this new group. Stafford and Adams have only gotten some minimal work in so far, but the star quarterback expressed how happy he is to have the veteran wideout on the squad in an interview with NFL Network:
“He’s been great. Obviously, played against him in the division, have been a fan of his from afar on the other sideline for a long time. What he’s been able to do in the league kind of speaks for itself but then getting to be around him personally every day, working with him, throwing to him, just seeing the kind of professional that he is. He fits right in. Those are the kind of guys since I’ve been here in L.A. that we’ve had. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to throw with a bunch of guys that take the game seriously, love going out and competing, trying to find ways to get better. He’s no different and we’re definitely excited to have him. I know for me as a quarterback, I feel lucky for all the guys I’ve been able to throw to and he’s definitely up there.”
From the sound of it, Stafford and Adams’ partnership has gotten off on the right foot and there’s room to believe that they’ll be able to help each other during the 2025 season. Head coach Sean McVay recruited Adams hard in free agency, so it’ll be exciting to see how much he has left in the tank as the Rams try to make another Super Bowl run.
Davante Adams excited to build connection with Matthew Stafford
While Davante Adams has preferred to play alongside Aaron Rodgers in his career, he’s got a great quarterback in Matthew Stafford who can still sling the football. Adams and Stafford have begun to work together in the offseason and the former expressed his excitement about building a connection with the quarterback.
