The biggest question for the Los Angeles Rams heading into the 2025 season was whether or not Matthew Stafford’s back could help for 17 games.
Stafford missed time during training camp tending to a back injury, though the quarterback has been able to come out of the first two weeks of the regular season unscathed. Despite missing valuable practice time, Stafford looks comfortable on the field and has the Rams offense back to being explosive.
Los Angeles has the benefit of having two alpha wideouts in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, both of whom are off to strong starts to the season. Stafford acknowledged he’s fortunate to be able to throw to the duo and expressed how lucky he is to have them on his side.
“It’s nice being me,” he said this week. “It’s nice being me and lining up and knowing that we got two guys that… really we’ve got more than two, but those two guys have done a heck of a job in the last couple years. Davante has a few more years than Puka, but both have done a great job in the last couple of years making big plays. That’s what’s showing up to me. When they’re getting their opportunities to make plays, they’re making great ones. Puka’s unbelievable run, that wasn’t even a pass thrown to him, but an unbelievable run on the short yardage play we had, where he scored it from 45 [yards]. Davante had a number of great catches and did a great job getting loose for that touchdown late. I feel lucky. I know not every quarterback in the league gets to drop back and throw it and hand it off to the guys that we have, and I feel good about that.”
Both Nacua and Adams have been friendly targets for Stafford every time he drops back to pass, and the two is just starting to hit its stride. Both players scored touchdowns in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, flashing how they can coexist on the field together.
With a strong running game powered by Kyren Williams, Stafford has all the weapons he needs to get Los Angeles back into the postseason. With a statement game in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles approaching, Stafford and the Rams have a chance to make some noise.
