Rams News: Matthew Stafford Apologized To Davante Adams After NFC Championship Game Loss

February 1, 2026 by Rams Nation

Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams, Rams, Panthers

The Los Angeles Rams signed wide receiver Davante Adams last offseason in order to help bolster the passing game alongside Puka Nacua, with quarterback Matthew Stafford leading the charge. The move made sense for both sides as Adams was looking to finally make a trip to the Super Bowl that has eluded him throughout his Hall of Fame career.

Unfortunately, the Rams came up just short in that goal, falling to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game 31-27. For Adams, it was the fifth time he has made it to the conference championship only to come up short, and it was heartbreaking for him to say the least.

The Rams and Stafford especially wanted to be able to help Adams reach that Super Bowl and it really hurt the quarterback that they didn’t. In an appearance on the Lets Go Pod, Stafford even revealed that he apologized to Adams for not being able to do more to get him there:

“I told him, man I wish I could have been better for him and gotten us to where we want to go. Just to give him that opportunity. It didn’t happen, and that’s a tough pill for me to swallow, but I do appreciate the hell out of him and what he did for our team and what kind of teammate he was.”

Stafford putting that blame on himself just shows who he is as a leader as there really wasn’t much more he could have done. He threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the loss to the Seahawks, with one of those toucdowns going to Adams himself. And Stafford and Adams were on the same page all season long as the latter led the NFL in receiving touchdowns despite missing time.

Both Stafford and Adams are nearing the end of their careers, which is why it was so important to both to get to the Super Bowl. There is always a chance that they could run it back next season and if that happens, the desire to reach that ultimate goal will be even higher.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford to take time before deciding future

There were questions last offseason about whether or not Stafford would continue playing, and he would go on to have an MVP season. Now those same questions will be surrounding Stafford this offseason and the quarterback made it clear that he will take some time before deciding on his future.
