The Los Angeles Rams have gotten back to their roots the last couple of seasons by looking to establish the run game with Kyren Williams leading the way in their backfield.
Williams is coming off a bit of a down year in 2024 compared to 2023, but he still rushed for 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns with 182 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He did see his yards per carry decrease from 5.0 to 4.1 though and fumbled the ball five times.
With the offseason underway, Williams is approaching it with the expectation that he will have his best NFL season in 2025, via DJ Siddiqi of RG:
“Everything,” says Williams in a one-on-one interview with RG when asked where he wants to improve. “I don’t feel like I’ve touched my peak yet. I’ve gotten to where I wanted to be, but I’m determined to make this my best season.”
Williams expanded up what aspect of his game he is looking to improve in 2025:
“Just trying to make more explosive runs, be able to create long runs and just create more opportunities for my guys around me to be successful,” Williams details. “However that looks, whether that’s pass blocking, catching the ball, breaking long runs, converting first downs, do everything I can to make sure that I’m the best I can be consistently this year.”
After missing the Pro Bowl in 2024, Williams has a bit of a chip on his shoulder and wants to get back to his 2023 level of production:
“No, I just think not a lot of things added up to me to be successful like what happened in 2023 and you just have to continue working,” says Williams. “I don’t think anything differently played a part. I was a Pro Bowler and I wasn’t in 2024. It wasn’t my time, just got to get back to the drawing board and figure out how I can get back to where I was.”
Williams is one of the best running backs in the league and certainly has a lot of motivation heading into a contract season. He and the Rams have begun discussions about an extension, although the team has drafted two runnings backs in Blake Corum and Jarquez Hunter the last two years, so it remains to be seen if they will get a deal done with Williams.
Jarquez Hunter looking to bring different dynamic to Rams’ running back room
While Kyren Williams is an exceptional running back, he doesn’t have the speed to be a home run hitter, which is why Jarquez Hunter feels he will bring a different dynamic to the Rams’ backfield.
“Just watching those guys in the past couple years, I felt like they did a really good job in running the ball in LA and the Rams,” Hunter said.
“I feel like they’re really good running backs. I feel like just me coming to the room, they can help me a lot and I can add something to the running back room.”
