Rams News: Konata Mumpfield Reminds Davante Adams Of Younger Self

The Los Angeles Rams went into their bye with a 5-2 record after blowing out the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Matthew Stafford was on top of his game as he tied a career-high with five touchdowns in the Rams’ 35-7 win, completing passes to 10 different receivers.

Konata Mumpfield got more playing time with Puka Nacua sidelined and caught his only target of the day — a five-yard touchdown — to give the team an early lead in the first quarter.

Davante Adams, who caught three touchdowns in the Rams’ win over the Jaguars, praised Mumpfield and compared the rookie to a younger version of himself, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I call Konata my son, just because he just reminds me so much of myself, as far as a young Tae,” Adams said. “And honestly I think he’s ahead of where I was my rookie year, as far as just being comfortable in the league. He’s crazy coachable and he’s got all the ability in the world. So whenever I’m done in there, he’ll go and step up and he’ll be catching a lot more touchdowns than what he did today.”

The Rams are loaded at the wide receiver position but clearly saw enough in Mumpfield to use a seventh-round pick on him in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The 23-year-old hasn’t gotten much playing time this season due to being buried on the depth chart, but continues to make good progress and could be more of a factor in the Rams’ offense down the stretch.

After scoring his first NFL touchdown against the Jaguars, Mumpfield thanked his Rams teammates and coaching staff for putting him in a good position to have success.

“It felt amazing,” Mumpfield said. “I just got to thank God for putting me in that situation. I want to thank (head) coach (Sean) McVay, (quarterback Matthew) Stafford, the whole team, because it’s a blessing for sure, especially over here in London, too.”

Mumpfield added that he is focused on making steady progress and praised Davante Adams for all the knowledge that he has passed down to him:

“Really, just focusing on being the best version of myself,” Mumpfield said of his approach in such a deep wide receiver room. “It’s a blessing to be playing the game that we are today. So I mean, a lot of people wish they were in my shoes. So really, just taking a step at a time, a day at a time, stacking days, and learning as much as I can from those guys. Because, like I said, I mean, I prayed in college and in high school to learn from a guy like D Adams.”
