The Los Angeles Rams have their sights on winning the Super Bowl due in large part to Matthew Stafford playing at an MVP level.
Through 13 games, Stafford has completed 66.7% of his passes for 3,354 yards, an NFL-leading 35 passing touchdowns and only four interceptions.
Stafford is having one of the best seasons of his career, but at the age of 37, it isn’t clear how much longer he will want to play.
Davante Adams has enjoyed being teammates with Stafford and said he is trying to convince the two-time Pro Bowler to return to the Rams for at least one more season. He actually revealed that he is planning to retire whenever Stafford does, via J.B. Long of TheRams.com:
“There’s no reason why he couldn’t or shouldn’t, and I’m working on that now,” Adams said. The All-Pro receiver turns 33 on Christmas Eve. “I told him actually, I made a joke. I said, ‘Whenever you stop, I’m done. So it’s up to you.’”
Adams is having a resurgent season with Stafford throwing him the ball, so it’s easy to see why he is pushing for the veteran quarterback to return next season.
After being NFC North rivals for nearly a decade, the Stafford and Adams connection has proven to be a good one this season. Adams has hauled in 56 passes for 718 yards and an NFL-best 14 touchdowns in 13 games.
The quarterback has discussed the possibility of retiring after the 2025 season, but wants to see how the year goes before he makes an official decision.
Matthew Stafford ‘humbled’ to be in NFL MVP conversation
Matthew Stafford turned in another spectacular performance in the Los Angeles Rams’ 45-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
He completed 22 of his 31 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, helping the Rams improve to 10-3 on the season and reclaim the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
With the effort, Stafford became the new betting favorite for NFL MVP honors, surpassing New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Stafford said he is honored to be in the conversation for NFL MVP honors and credited his Rams teammates for making his job easier.
