Rams News: Davante Adams Encouraged By Week 1

The Los Angeles Rams are 1-0 after defeating the Houston Texans in a 14-9 slugfest in Week 1. It wasn’t a particularly impressive game for either team offensively, but the Rams were able to do just enough on that end — while their defense led the way — to secure the win. One player who had a somewhat underwhelming afternoon was Davante Adams.

Adams was brought in as the Rams’ marquee offseason addition after parting ways with long-time wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Adams and Puka Nacua were, and are, expected to be one of the receiver duos in all of football. But in Week 1, Adams only amassed four catches for 51 yards. He was targeted eight times, compared to Nacua’s 11, but the latter was more efficient, getting 10 catches for 130 yards.

Despite that, Adams was encouraged by what he saw from himself in Week 1 and knows that it isn’t always going to be his show when Nacua is there doing what he does best, according to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I think you look at the tape, there was a lot of good stuff there,” Adams said. “We obviously didn’t get to light up the stat sheet how we can. ‘We’ meaning myself and my own contribution. It’s hard to talk about ‘I’ and use that, but you’ll have games where Puka goes out there and has 130 (yards) and misses however much time throughout the game and still can go out there and light it up like that. I’m just concerned about winning at the end of the day. I know my fantasy owners are not too excited about it when it happens like that, but unfortunately that’s not in the forefront of my mind. I know they think it is. I’m just out here trying to win games and contribute and make plays when I can.”

Adams was one of several star receivers around the league to underperform in Week 1. But there were definitely good signs that the veteran star is going to be heavily involved in the offense as he gets more and more comfortable. And while Doncic is going to continue being the No. 1 target, Adams will have a real case to be one of the best No. 2 receivers in all of football.

Rams’ Matthew Stafford feels good after Week 1

The Rams started their 2025 season with a 14-9 win over the Texans at SoFi Stadium, with Matthew Stafford under center as expected.

The veteran quarterback was able to get a full week of practice in ahead of the Week 1 matchup. That was significant as Stafford missed roughly two months because of an aggravated disk in his back that limited him for most of training camp and the preseason.

After the win, Stafford said his back feels fine and he is looking forward to getting back on the field in practice.
