Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced on Tuesday that he and his wife, Veronika, welcomed a baby boy named Christian Alexander McVay.
Christian was born on Monday morning, a day after the Rams clinched a playoff berth with their 41-34 win over the Detroit Lions at SoFi Stadium.
McVay’s already busy week is about to get busier with the Rams traveling to Lumen Field for an important Thursday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks.
McVay discussed the challenges of a short turnaround but is grateful to be playing meaningful football this late in the season, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN:
“What a crazy week to be playing on a Thursday,” McVay said.
When asked whether he had slept at all since Sunday, McVay said: “Not really.”
“This is a good challenge,” he said. “But it’s a blessing to be able to play in meaningful games this late in the season. And so I’ve got a lot of appreciation for our staff. And fighting a good fight right now.”
The Rams can’t officially clinch the NFC West this week, but a win over the Seahawks would give them a one-game lead with only two games to play.
L.A. is also trying to maintain the No. 1 seed in NFC, which would give them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and a bye in the first round.
The Rams might be a little short-handed against the Seahawks as Davante Adams and Braden Fiske are both considered game-time decisions after suffering injuries in Week 15. Tyler Higbee and Rob Havenstein also are not expected to return just yet.
Even if Adams and Fiske don’t play, the Rams are fortunate enough to be in a spot where they can exercise caution with their star players after already punching their ticket to the postseason.
Sean McVay happy that Rams clinched playoff berth
The Rams are heading back to the playoffs for the third consecutive season, having advanced as a wild card team in 2023 before winning the NFC West last year.
The Rams still have a lot of work to do to get to the Super Bowl, but head coach Sean McVay is proud of his players for checking off an important item on their to-do list.
“It’s great to be able to punch a ticket to the playoffs,” head coach Sean McVay said postgame. “That’s obviously always a goal, is to be able to give yourself a chance to play extra games after that, those 17 (games) that you’re guaranteed.”
